Return loss: also known as reflection loss, refers to the decibel number of the backward reflected light power relative to the incident light power at the connection of the optical signal through the Fiber Optic Patch Cord.
The end faces of APC fiber optic connectors are bevel-polished, so the return loss of APC fiber optic connectors is generally better than that of UPC fiber optic connectors.In general, the return loss of the optical fiber jumper with PC grinding mode is -40dB.The return loss of UPC is higher than that of PC, generally at -55dB.The APC industry standard return loss is -60dB.
When using UPC fiber optic connector, part of the reflected light will be emitted back to the light source, while the oblique end face of APC fiber optic connector will make part of the reflected light reflected to the cladding at an Angle, thus reducing more reflected light returned to the light source.This is the main factor that causes the difference in return loss.
